About Alan
The Curious Kind
Alan McKee is an author, entrepreneur, and educator based in Sarasota, Florida. He grew up with two soundtracks running at the same time: the bell on the door of his father's small town Sunoco station, and whatever Beatles record he had saved his lawn mowing money to buy. Both are still running.
He has spent decades building companies, eleven at last count, among them Netwurx Technology Group, founded in 2004 as a Nextel dealer and grown into a full managed service provider, and Acurata Hospice Software Solutions, founded in 2018 after his own family could not get timely hospice care for a loved one in their final hours. SRQ Magazine named him Localpreneur of the Year twice: in 2018 for Netwurx, and in 2020 for Acurata.
In 2014 he began teaching adult education part time. The first class was a history of the Beatles, tracing their childhoods and the unlikely run of events that eventually put the four of them in the same room. He has since developed nearly twenty courses through Sarasota County's Adult Community Enrichment program on subjects ranging from classic rock and film to literature and American history, and he speaks to civic and business groups about the surprising overlap among the three.
He plays in a classic rock band with like minded friends, mostly for the joy of it, and has turned up in the occasional independent film, television spot, and commercial. Both habits trace back to a decision he made in middle age: that trying something you might be bad at makes you a more interesting person, and that the experiences you collect are worth more than the risk of embarrassment.
His first book, The Amplified Entrepreneur: Building a Business That Rocks, debuted at number one in Amazon's Business Education category and won a Literary Titan award. Somewhere Else, his first novel, arrives September 1, 2026. Both grew out of the same habit of mind: an insatiable curiosity, and a working knowledge of what happens when a person falls in love with a subject too hard.
"You don't need to be technically perfect to make an impact. You just need to show up with passion, authenticity, and the willingness to keep playing your unique song."
